Category:
The Central Processing Unit (CPU) or (micro) processor is the part of a computer where most calculations take place. In terms of computing power, the processor is the most important element of a computer system, so the performance of a computer is highly dependant on the performance of the processor. For quite some time the performance of a processor has been determined by the number of MHz the clock speed was, but nowadays clock speed doesn't have so much to do with the speed of the processor anymore. One of the best ways to compare different kinds of processors, is to look up benchmarks on the internet. Please be careful to buy a processor that is compatible with your motherboard, i.e. fits in the right socket.

Data-sheet quality: created/standardized by Icecat
The quality of the product data-sheet can be on several levels:
only logistic data imported: we have only basic data imported from a supplier, a data-sheet is not yet created by an editor.
created by AMD: a data-sheet is imported from an official source from a manufacturer. But the data-sheet is not yet standardized by an Icecat editor.
created/standardized by Icecat: the data-sheet is created or standardized by an Icecat editor.

The performance of all Athlon 64 X2 5000 versions is the same. The 65-nm models are marginally slower in some benchmarks due to increased L2 cache latency. However, such a small difference is negligible and ultimately unimportant.

While Intel continues to pop out sockets and processors on an almost daily basis, AMD has been more circumspect in revamping its range. This is the first set of processors from AMD that rejects standard DDR (double data rate) RAM in favour of the m...
Bottom line As an upgrade, the Athlon processors dont yet make sense. The chips themselves are expensive, and by the time youve factored in a motherboard and some extra DDR2 memory you could be looking at paying twice as much – especially if youre looking to b...

AMDs 65nm CPUs consume less power and run cooler than their predecessors, but these were never particular problems for the Athlon 64 X2. Performance against the Core 2 Duo is the issue, and the move to 65nm doesnt improve this. Our 65nm chip overcloc...

Sooner or later, AMD had to bite the bullet- the transition from DDR to DDR2 had to be made. What was making it harder for AMD is the high latency that’s associated with DDR2 memory. This hurts AMD more than Intel since they have an integrated memor...
Bottom line One thing thats clear from the benchmarks in the previous pages is that if you already own an FX-60, there is no need to rush out and buy the new 5000+. We didnt receive the FX-62 from AMD so we cant say how well that will compete against the FX-60. Th...
